Committees

Special Committees:

Negotiating Committee:
The function of the committee is to survey the membership, prepare collective bargaining proposals and negotiate a collective agreement.

 

Permanent Committees:

Grievance Committee:
The function of the committee is to oversee the handling of all local grievances and decide whether or not the grievances should proceed to arbitration.

Bylaw Committee:
The function of the committee is to review the local bylaws and make recommendations on proposed amendments that conform with the CUPE National Constitution.

 

Our Union

CUPE Local 2177:

CUPE Local 2177 represents over 130 Transportation and Maintenance employees at First Student Canada in Burlington, Ontario. The transportation department includes positions such as school bus drivers, driver-trainers and bus monitors. The maintenance department includes positions such as lead-hand maintenance, mechanics, apprentice mechanics, parts persons, bus washers and summer help.

Local 2177 is affiliated with CUPE Ontario and CUPE National.

 

CUPE Ontario:

CUPE Ontario represents over 250,000 members across the province. CUPE is the largest union in Ontario. CUPE Ontario works at the provincial level for legislative, policy and political change and acts as the political voice for over 700 CUPE locals in the province. CUPE Ontario’s key sectors include health care, municipalities, universities, social services and school boards.

 

CUPE National:

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is Canada’s largest union, with over 700,000 members in over 2,500 locals across the country. CUPE represents workers in health care, emergency services, education, early learning and child care, municipalities, social services, libraries, utilities, transportation, airlines and more. CUPE National has more than 70 offices across the country, with at least one in every province.
